Technical Breakout: Gauged Porcelain Tile Panels: Design Revolution with Advanced Materials, New Standards and Qualified Installers

Architects and Design professionals are embracing the wide array of design options currently being made available to them with gauged porcelain tile panels and slabs.  With improvements in the manufacturing process, porcelain tile can be confidently specified for indoor and outdoor use, in both residential and commercial settings.  It is important to understand all aspects of this new technology if you are writing a specification, including the essential use of qualified and trained installers.  Awareness of industry standards in these products and the appropriate code considerations is also important.  Case studies of successful projects will clearly stress the importance of collaboration between the architect and project owner, coupled with the distributor, contractor, and manufacturer.
